Austin Office

The Texas Liver Institute (TLI) serves Travis County and the surrounding areas through our Austin office. The office is overseen by Transplant Hepatologist, Dr. Carmen Landaverde, who has tremendous experience in all forms of liver disease and is a highly regarding physician leader, educator, and mentor. In addition to Dr. Landaverde, patients are cared for by Dr. Fred Poordad and a team of very knowledgeable advanced practice providers.

Clinical Services

Texas Liver Institute providers manage patients with all forms of liver disease including viral hepatitis, cholestatic disease, autoimmune and fatty liver disease as well as patients diagnosed with cirrhosis and liver cancer.  In addition to general hepatology care, those patients in need of more advanced care will undergo pre and post-transplant assessment.  These assessments will be done within our Austin facility and coordinated with the University Transplant Center in San Antonio. Our facility is equipped with advanced technology that includes elastography, which is a non-invasive method of measuring liver stiffness. Our goal is to provide excellence in care while minimizing the inconveniences of travel.

Texas Liver Tumor Center (TLTC)

The Texas Liver Tumor Center was formed as a partnership between University Health System, UT Health San Antonio and TLI, with the intent of creating a unique, advanced healthcare system to treat a wide variety of liver tumors. 

Our state-of-the-art outpatient center in San Antonio provides a full range of services for patients with liver tumors. Our unique streamlined process enables patients to consult with some of the nation’s top liver tumor specialists to receive a comprehensive, specialized treatment plan. The multi-disciplinary team of liver and cancer experts, social workers, dietitians, and health professionals are all under one roof, and patients see all of them, in one visit. This means less waiting, less anxiety, better communication, and answers, all in one day.

For many patients, follow up care can be performed in our Austin office.

Clinical Research

The Austin location conducts outpatient clinical research trials that offer cutting edge therapeutic opportunities to patients, prior to their availability to the public. The Texas Liver Institute has been instrumental in the fields of viral hepatitis and fatty liver disease, leading to international recognition. TLI is often in the press for its unique and ground-breaking contributions in the field of liver disease.

Our office has fluent Spanish speaking staff and accepts most insurance plans.
